Letters to Santa

At the beginning of December we wrote letters to Santa!

We put them in a VERY LARGE envelope.

We walked to the postbox to post our letters.

We saw lots of things on the way. When we got back to our classroom we drew maps of our journey to the postbox.

Helping Honey Potts - Waterproof Materials!

We received a package from Honey Potts the Bear.

He needed our help to find out what materials are waterproof and what would be the best material for making hats for all the teddy bears going to the teddy bears picnic.

Of course we wanted to help so we did an experiment. Honey Potts sent us 4 hats - a fabric baseball cap, a woolly hat, a paper hat and a plastic rain hat.

First we poured a little water on each one.

Next we checked to see if the water soaked through.

We found out that the fabric baseball cap, the woolly hat and the paper hat were definitely not waterproof. The bears would get wet if they wore any of those hats to the picnic.

The plastic rain hat was the only one that would keep the bears dry.

We sent letters to Honey Potts telling him our results.

The Elves and the Shoemaker

We listened to the story of 'The elves and the shoemaker'.

We designed clothes for the elves just like the shoemaker and his wife in the story. We coloured in the clothes with different colours and patterns, cut them out and put them on our elves! You can see them in their new clothes below.

We learned all about different types of shoes. We made a block graph showing the shoes in our classroom - shoes with zips, shoes with buckles, shoes with laces and shoes with Velcro.

Project Runway

We designed clothes using fabric and fibre.
We are fantastic fashion designers!

The Smartest Giant in Town

We read the story 'The Smartest Giant in Town' by Julia Donaldson. We made our very own George the Giant.
We think he is the smartest giant in Scoil Mhuire!

You can hear the story below!

Grassheads!

We made our very own flowerpot people. First we decorated paper cups with coloured paper to make perfect flowerpot people. We stuck on sticker eyes and made noses and mouths.

Next we put soil in the cups and sprinkled grass seed on top. We watered the seeds.

Over the midterm break the grass grew and gave our flowerpot beautiful long green hair!
