Our Snowmen are Melting!

We made these silly slipping sliding snowmen. We used sponges and paint to make the bodies and pieces of card to make his hat, nose, mouth, buttons and arms. Then we had some googly eyes to bring our snowmen to life!!

We sang a song about 5 little snowmen melting in the snow. You can listen to it here!

We also learned the poem Millions of Snowflakes By Mary McKenna.

MILLIONS OF SNOWFLAKES.
One little snowflake falls on my nose.
It makes me shiver from my head to my toes.
Two little snowflakes get in my eyes.
Blink! Blink! What a surprise!
Three little snowflakes melt on my tongue.
I eat them up. Yum! Yum! Yum!
Four little snowflakes tickle my chin.
I laugh. I jump. I run. I spin.
I stop, and I put out my hand.
Five little snowflakes softly land.
Snow on the house. Snow on the tree.
Snow on the ground. Snow on me!
Millions of snowflakes in my hair.
Snowflakes falling everywhere!
~~By Mary McKenna.~~

We used chalk on blue paper to make beautiful snow scenes inspired by the poem.

A Visitor From Dublin Zoo!!

Jim from Dublin Zoo came to visit our school and talk to all the boys and girls. He brought lots of cool things to show us!!

This is an elephants tooth. Did you know elephants only have 2 teeth??

This is an ostrich egg. The ostrich is the biggest bird in the world. Did you know ostriches can't fly?? But they can run really fast!

This is a leopard skin. Jim told us that leopards are really clever. Did you know they can climb trees??

Jim also showed us an elephants foot and tusks. Did you know that elephants walk very quietly even though they are so big and heavy??

This is a turtle. They live in the sea. They come out of the sea up on to the beach to lay their eggs. They bury the eggs in the sand and then go back in to the ocean. Did you know that turtles never meet their mammy or daddy?? We think baby turtles must be very brave!

This is a tiger skin and a mountain lion skin. They were much softer than we expected. Did you know the smallest tiger in the world is the Sumatran Tiger??

Story Time!

This month we have been learning all about time. We read the story Stick Man by Julia Donaldson. In the story Stick Man ends up lost, far away from the Family Tree. It takes him a full year to get home. He is gone for 4 seasons.... Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter.

Watch the story here!

It is Winter now! We read the story The Gruffalo's Child by Julia Donaldson. It is all about the Gruffalo's child and her adventures through the woods on a snowy winters night to find The Big Bad Mouse! Take a look at the video!

We have been learning all about day and night. Day Monkey Night Monkey also by Julia Donaldson is a great story about 2 monkeys - one who is awake during the day and asleep at night and the other who sleeps all day and is up all night. We really enjoyed this story!

December in Room 4

December was a very busy month in Room 4!

We made decorations for our Christmas Trees from clay.

We made reindeer from paper plates and hand prints.

We painted stripey stockings and stuck cotton wool on top.

Santa visited the school.

Some of the boys and girls won prizes in the Christmas raffle and had their picture taken with Santa!

When we went back to our classroom we had a big surprise waiting for us..... Santa left us a letter and some clues!! The clues took us all around the school.... to the christmas tree, the crib, the staffroom and the art room!! At the end of the treasure hunt we found a sack full of treats for us to share!!
